kids

I asked my daughter, " If I had known now what I didn't know then, do you think mummy would have had kids?"

She asked me , " Do you mean 1) you are single ( so no kids)

2) married and without kids "

She then went on to give me all the logical reasons why my current status is the best ! Married

with kids!

fruitful day

Yesterday was the first day of the school holidays but it it rained nearly the whole morning. So today, I decided to run my errands.Quite pleased with the results.

1) To the market to get some fresh chicken fillet meat. ( son enjoys the simple chicken recipe I cook for him )

2) To Bank ATM to withdraw some cash.

3) To Bank B to pay my monthly car installment.

4) To Bank C to attend to a school transaction.

5) To the post office to pay TM net bill

6) To the library to return my overdue books

Watched a kidney transplant programme over Astro with the kids and also "Perfect Proposal" programme, which caused daughter to ask how her dad proposed to me. Anyone want to share?

Need to visit 2 more banks tomorrow.I hope it will be a sunny day.

cosmetic surgery

While surfing Astro, we came across this channel on cosmetic surgery, more specifically, breast enlargment.

Son asked me " Why is the lady doing it ?"

My reply " She thinks she will look prettier."

Son's reply, " Looks aren't everything , you know. She looks fine as she is "

I hope son remembers this in 15 years' time, as he is only 10 now.

Teachers' Day

Most schools, including mine, will celebrate Teachers' Day on the last day of term.

Wishing all teachers a happy Teachers' Day!

A Teachers' Prayer

I want to teach my students how --
To live this life on earth
To face its struggles and strife
And to improve their worth

Not just the lesson in a book.
Or how the rivers flow,
But to choose the proper path,
Wherever they may go

To understand eternal truth,
And to know right from wrong,
And gather all the beauty of
A flower and a song,

For if I help the world to grow
In wisdom and grace,
Then I feel that I have won
And I have filled my place.

And so I ask your guidance, God
That I may do my part,
For character and confidence
And happiness of heart

breastfeeding

Last week my daughter asked me this question, " Why didn't you breastfeed me?"

She went on to say breastfeeding is good for me and for her as well. She has just read an article about it somewhere. Perhaps, persistence was not my virtue during my confinement days, that is why.

I hope daughter feels assured that not breastfeeding her doesn't mean I love her less.

To all mothers who have breastfed their kids, I take my hat off to you!

an exam day

There will be intervals between exam papers, where students are supposed to study or do their own revision. I asked son if this is true in his present school.

His reply," The students in my class are doing 3 things, keeping quiet, talking or playing in class."
No prizes for guessing which category he is in.

ice

I was having tea with my son at a cafe. Three ladies , in their 40's, were seated at the table next to ours. They seemed to be having a good time, chattering away, in English!

One of them asked for the waitress and said ," Please bring me a block of ice." I was amused when she said that.

In my head, I imagined a big block of ice brought out to her. She should have said " a cube of ice."

Dare I correct her ? Would you have if you have been there?

"good life"

At the hairdresser's last week, I noticed the lady sitting next to me looking at me.

After a while, she said to me" Your mole ( ha ha, I won't reveal which part of my face ) indicates that you have a good life." I rebutted, "Me, good life?" She then mentioned her grandmother who she claims has a good life.

How do you define "good life"?

outdoor nieces

Hubby's 2 nieces are really the outdoor type. They have been nearly everywhere for diving, papua new guinea was their latest destination. One of them also takes up cycling and is currently in Ipoh for a competition.

I met up with one of them during a family dinner yesterday ( by the way, this place serves 35 types of crabs!) and she told me they took part in a marathon in singapore last year, which involves runing for 42 km.

Since they are both single and are sisters, their common interests really help to cement their bond. My daughter has lamented before that she wished she has a sister like them, to do things together!

movies

During the recent break, I watched 2 dvd movies. One was "Music and lyrics" starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. It is a romantic comedy.

The other was "The Painted Veil" starring Naomi Watts and Edward Norton. It is based on the classic novel by Somerset Maugham. It is a love story set in the 1920's and tells the tale of a young English couple. He is a doctor married to an upper class woman. He marries her because he loves her but she marries him to escape from her mother. When the doc discovers wife's infidelity, in an act of vengeance, he accepts a job in a remote village in China ravaged by a deadly epidemic and gives her no choice but to follow him. Will their relationship be revived under such circumstance? Go watch it!

homework

I was pleasantly surprised when son wanted to do his homework just now. On a normal day, the time to do his work is at 9pm and that with me reminding him to do it.

One was a KH ( Living skills ) project. He had to paint it and decorate it. He said it will be graded. Seeing him at it , I asked, " So you like to do this type of work?" His answer? " I just want to get it over." Ha ha

I was tempted to help him, hovering nearby to supervise. He was very adamant that he would do it all by himself, adding " It will be my masterpiece no matter how it looked." So true, huh?

choice

At the market yesterday morning, I was wondering which stall to patronise. Stall A didn't have customers but stall B had quite a few. Why?

Is it because stall B has better service or is more generous with their portions? I don't know.

I took a look at the seller of stall A . These thoughts came to my mind. He looked fatherly enough to be a dad and surely he is dependent on the day's earnings to feed his kids?

Which stall do you think I patronised and which one whould you choose?
